Here We Go Again...

Description

I almost did it, I almost let his character fade into obscurity so I could retire him secretly to the character graveyard, but I couldn't ^^; it goes against me to let any of my characters go like that, even if I don't draw them, I can't ever retire them. I don't know if Leron will ever be a main character again, he still needs much development and so do all of his comrades and his world in general, which has been coming along slowly, but he is now a solid part of my character team again.

Leron here has been a big struggle for me, I created him before I understood GOOD character development (not as long ago as Gein, he's part of my 5 year old troupe), and have had a lot of trouble pulling character out of him. Up until recently his personality and interests have been nothing more than a mystery to me, or the ones I thought of were cliché and overused. I finally decided to fortify him with my developing skills, both in visual design and in character development, because I thought it would be a good example to everyone that characters can improve.

New Backstory Elements
Leron originally came from a rich family, and and was spoiled when he was young. Little did he or his mother know that his father had come upon his fortune by thievery and schemes to con the gullible, and the illusion of an upstanding man he had portrayed all of his son's life was about to come crashing down. He was finally traced by the royal guards, and executed not long after. His entire estate was reclaimed by the royal council, and the fortune he'd stolen redistributed among those who'd lost at his hands. Leron's mother is still alive today, although she and Leron separated when he was only 16 years old. The single mother could not support her growing child, and left him to fend for himself as a beggar and a thief for many years until his magical powers developed. He then became part of the sanctuary, where he remains to this day.

New Personality/Physical Elements
:bulletblack: Leron is paranoid of, and very hateful of royal elves, aside from Cicero. He was never made fully aware of his father's crimes, and believes the council was wrong in ever taking him away.
:bulletblack: He has a bad leg from a childhood horse riding accident, he has a slight limp, and he can sometimes be seen resting it by using a walking stick of some sort.
:bulletblack: Leron is stubborn and distant, although not unkind. He does not trust people easily, but when he does he forms lifelong friendships.
:bulletblack: He tends to be a mooch, and occasionally will even steal things he can't attain by other means. This is a long standing habit from his days as a vagrant beggar and thief, although he is attempting to break it slowly.
:bulletblack: Leron is not very literate, as he never had the means to finish his schooling, and was too embarrassed to start learning as an adult. He can read simple words, and can understand numbers relatively well, but he would never be able to read a chapter book or study from a tome. All of his magic is thusly self taught or learned from a teacher in person.
:bulletblack: Leron keeps to himself most times, and will typically try to talk to one person at a time, avoiding groups whenever possible.
:bulletblack: Underneath the green plant matter the overspill of his magic creates, his hair is platinum blonde, which is part of the reason the green color shows so well.

The image in the background is neither a drawing or a stock photo. It is actually a cropped and filtered piece from my collection of personal photography, taken when I went huckleberry picking earlier in the week.

Oh! Also, I based Leron's pose off of this photograph here: dewfooter.deviantart.com/art/M…

Definitely go check out Dewfooter's photos, they are most excellent~! Beautiful in themselves and excellent for reference!

And that concludes an exceptionally long artist's comments section!
